Comfort and Control: Why Yarn Bowls are Best

If you are wanting to upgrade your needlework station—your favourite little crafting nook where you crochet away for hours on end—I highly suggest you invest in a handcrafted yarn bowl. For years I let my yarn balls roll around the floor (cause who has time to wait and fuss before starting?!) or grabbed a regular bowl/bag for my yarn to nestle is. Problem is, the yarn would pop out, swing about my feet, get tangled up as my dog inevitably whizzed by (ah!), and generally did everything I didn’t want it to do.

So here’s the solution… Let me first say that I’m also a potter and I love using handmade things of all kinds—including ceramics made by others. Enter the beautifully hand crafted yarn bowl pictured here. It allows your yarn to roll freely without tangling—no more snags as you work. Plus, it’s height keeps the ball of yarn from escaping and wandering where it shouldn’t. The surface and edges are smooth, allowing yarn to feed through the opening without catching.  And as a ceramic artist myself, I can appreciate how much effort goes into making a clay vessel smooth to the touch. Simply put, this bespoke, handcrafted teal yarn bowl from Madeleine Coomey (available at YarnCanada.ca) is not only highly beautiful, it’s also highly functional. As well, the single heart opening on the side allows your crochet hooks or knitting needles to protrude out of the bowl when not knitting—a perfectly considered addition.
